A Christmas message from CGP Coordinator, Zoe Hatch

22 December 2018

2018 has been quite a tumultuous year in the world of UK politics, especially the last few weeks! When the country seems entirely devoid of leadership and the most important issue of the day is who called whom 'stupid' it is easy to get disheartened. I woke this morning to read a disappointing article in the Guardian where JC remains steadfastly committed to Brexit in the event of Labour winning a general election. Time and time again, I see that people across the UK are waking up to the fact that Brexit will fail to deliver much beyond misery and poverty - especially for the most vulnerable in our society. Support of Brexit by a left-wing party is indefensible and a People's Vote is the only way out of this omnishambles.

However saddened and frustrated I am by our situation, it also strengthens my resolve. The Green Party is the only party that has consistently campaigned for a People's Vote and that has strong and clear policies on environmental and social justice - measures which are so desperately needed to secure a better future for our children.

If you feel the same and want to make a difference I hope you will be able to join me at one of the Chiltern Green Party meetings or socials next year. Together, we can work to build a stronger party, to create effective opposition and ultimately elect Greens locally and nationally to make the change so desperately needed. You will never be forced to take on more than you can handle and, believe me, empowering yourself to take action and work with like-minded people is such a remedy for these dark and difficult times.
