Zoe has lived in Taplow since 2005 with her husband and two children, now aged 12 and 16. She has been actively involved in environmental and social justice issues from an early age and worked as a Parliamentary Researcher in her 20s.
Zoe has become increasingly concerned about the growing environmental crisis and the global political issues that continue to impact us all. As a mum, she felt strongly that she wanted to do everything in her power to protect her children's future. If she didn’t step up, how could she expect others to do so on her behalf? She joined the Green Party in 2015 and says "I was won over by its values of fairness, deeply held democratic processes, integrity and equality along with radical and necessary approaches to environmental and social justice. For me this was a homecoming and long overdue."
Some of Zoe's community achievements include:
2013-Present: Co-founder and Director of Charitable VO 'Expanding Horizons'
Organising regular educational activities for children of all needs and abilities. Amongst a wide variety of offerings, she ran fortnightly sessions at the Thames Valley Adventure Playground for a mixed ability group educated outside the mainstream.
2015-2018: Hitcham & Taplow Society (Cross-party group working to preserve the local environment)
*Overhauling communications and marketing systems to engage with a wider audience and increase openness and accessibility.
*Redesigning website and establishing a Social Media presence for the group to publish news about local issues
*Doubling fundraising profits through successful marketing strategies and e-ticketing for events.
2015-16 Parish Councillor:
*Holding the 'Tory old guard' to account with regard to petty corruption and malpractice.
*Seeking to disrupt and dismantle the incumbent's policy of putting party politics before local residents needs. (The Parish Council now has a new chair and a more locally-focused agenda)
*Supporting sustainable transport links for pedestrians/ commuters by significantly improving the street lighting around the train station.
*Looking after the Environment by arranging local clean-up events with community groups.
*Vastly improving parish-wide communications through surveying residents to establish local needs, redesigning the Parish Council Website and establishing an email newsletter service about Parish Wide News.
July 2018 - Present : Extinction Rebellion
Zoe was involved in Extinction Rebellion national wellbeing team from an early stage and attended the 'Declaration of Rebellion' in London back in October. She is now involved in Marlow XR leading NVDA Training and Protest Songs, amongst other activities. She was arrested outside on Whitehall with other XR earth protectors during the October Rebellion this year.
Zoe likes to think the above achievements give a taste of just how much of a positive impact one Local Green can make on their community. She says "I am honoured to stand as a candidate for the Green Party. I believe that people care about the environment and social justice issues and want to secure a better future for their children, but they feel disenfranchised and powerless. There is a widespread belief that politics does not have their interests at heart" She continues "My work in the community is driven by a desire to advocate for those who don’t feel able to speak for themselves. As a Member of Parliament, I will do all I can to stand up for the environment and social justice and work towards a better future for everybody"
